JEYPost: Poirier Dice Que Masvidal Está Preparado Para Enfrentar A Usman: “Todo El Tiempo Estuvo En El Campamento De Entrenamiento Y Nunca Se Detuvo”

Jorge Masvidal entró como reemplazo de Gilbert Burns para enfrentar a Kamaru Usman el próximo fin de semana en la estelar del UFC 251 en Abu Dabi. Como era de esperarse, Usman es el gran favorito para llevarse la victoria y defender el cinturón de peso wélter, después de todo, Masvidal aceptó este combate con menos de una semana de anticipación.

Sin embargo, que Masvidal haya tomado la pelea con poco aviso no quiere decir que esté fuera de forma. De hecho, el ex-campeón interino de peso ligero del UFC, Dustin Poirier, se refirió a este tema en el podcast de Teddy Atlas, y allí dio a conocer que Masvidal no ha perdido el tiempo en estos tiempos de pandemia. Dustin Poirier: "Es una pelea con poca anticipación porque no había firmado el contrato. Pero déjenme decirles esto. Aquel sujeto estuvo en todo mi campamento de entrenamiento (para la pelea con Dan Hooker), él era mi compañero de sparring principal. Probablemente pasamos cinco semanas haciendo sparring juntos. Se encontró con wrestlers, los mejores wrestlers del mundo, creo que los pusieron solo para que Masvidal los usara. Incluso cuando la pelea se cayó y se la dieron a Burns - creo que eso sucedió al final de mi campamento de entrenamiento - Jorge aún estaba en el gimnasio a diario como si tuviera una pelea".

"No sé si él sabía algo que nosotros no, pero el chico todo el tiempo estuvo en el campamento de entrenamiento y nunca se detuvo. Creo que va a sorprender a muchos por su estado físico, su timing será bueno porque estuvo en mi campamento todo el tiempo. Ayudaba a algunos otros chicos, no solo a mí. Está en forma para pelear, lo sé. No es un sujeto que apenas se levanta del sofá. Este un sujeto que se estuvo preparando para pelear contra Usman, la pelea fracasó y siguió entrenando".

This guy was there my whole training camp (for Dan Hooker), he was my main sparring partner. We probably put in five weeks of sparring together," Dustin Poirier said on Teddy Atlas podcast (h/t BJPENN.com). "He flew in wrestlers, the best wrestlers in the world, I think they put them up just for Masvidal to use. Even when the fight fell through and they gave it to Burns, I think it was at the end of my training camp, Jorge was still in the gym every day like he had a fight."

"I don't know if he knew something we didn't, but the guy was in training camp the whole time and never stopped. I think he's going to surprise a lot of people with the shape he's in, his timing's going to be good because he was in my camp the whole time," he continued. "Helping a few guys, not just me. He's in fight shape, I know that much. This isn't a guy who's coming off the couch. This is a guy who was preparing to fight Usman and the fight fell through and he kept training."
